Today karauli, famous for its pale red sandstone, is also known as a holy place. There are some old monuments you could see here, apart from exploring the rambling countryside and the game sanctuary. There are excellent opportunities for jeep safaris and boating too. Do make it a point to visit the local bazaar where you get good handicraft items, especially the colourful bangles of karauli. A major socio-religious event here is the Kaila Devi fair. Kaila Devi is an important deity of karauli with a temple dedicated to her. A big cattle fair is also held in the month of phalguna (February-March), where camels, horses and buffaloes go on sale.

Kaila Devi Fair
The fair of Kaila Devi, popularly known as Mahalakshmi, (the goddess of wealth), holds an important place among the celebrated fairs of Rajasthan. The fair is held at the village Kaila in karauli district in the month of Chaitra, starting from Chaitra Budi 12 and lasting for a fortnight. The karauli Cityannual fair of Kaila Devi, (Mahalakshmi or the goddess of wealth), is held at the village Kaila (24 kms to the south west) in karauli district in the month of Chaitra (Mar-Apr), lasting for a fortnight. The temple of Kaila Devi is located on the banks of the Kalisil river in the hills of Trikut, 2 Kms. to the north-west of Kaila village. Another attraction is the small temple dedicated to Bhairon, situated in the courtyard and facing the shrine of Kaila Devi is a temple of Hanuman locally called 'Languriya'. Approximately 2 lakh devotees gather during the fair. The ritual of Kanak-Dandotis is observed by staunch devotees. They cover a distance of 15 to 20 Kms to reach the temple, not on foot but by lying prostrate, making lines with their hands in that position, advancing up to the line drawn and repeating this procedure till they reach the temple. While some eat food and take rest during the journey, others endure the rigours of the ritual without these.Groups of Mina tribesmen arrive in a spirit of gaiety dancing, singing and creating a lively atmosphere. The spacious courtyard becomes the venue for dances and songs sung in praise of the guardian deity. The nearest rail-head is Hindaun at a distance of about 48 Kms. Shri Mahavirji is another rail-head of the Western Railway near Kaila. The site is approachable by well maintained roads from karauli, Hindaun and Mah Book Your Touravirji. During the fair, the State Transport as well as private operators provide bus services keeping in mind the huge inflow of pilgrims.


Bhanwar Vilas Palace
Built as a royal residence, in the year 1938 by Maharaja Ganesh Pal Deo Bahadur, the then ruler of karauli is the Bhanwar Vilas Palace.The architecture is of colonial style and the interiors are furnished with art-de-decor period furniture.


City Palace
The old, yet monumental City Palace is a treasure trove of architecture, stone carvings, magnificent lattice work and classic paintings. The mesmerizing beauty of Darbar Hall is an experience in itself.


Kaila Devi Game Sanctuary
It is about 25-km from karauli. This game sanctuary situated in the vicinity, is a protected forest and an extension of the Ranthambore Tiger Project.The Sanctuary is inhabited by Chinkaras, Wild Boar, Blue Bull, Jackal, Leopard, Panther, Tiger, Sloth Bear, Hyena, Wolf, Sambhar and a variety of birds.

It is about 30 Km. from karauli. The Mahaveerji Jain Temple, is the famous pilgrimage of the Jains. The temple combines ancient and modern styles of architecture.

Culture
